CAMP QUALITY
By David Young

On July 31, 2010, several Astronomical Society of Kansas City members provided telescopes, meteorites and laser sky tours to a group of campers at Lake Doniphan a few miles southeast of Excelsior Springs, Mo.  Lake Doniphan hosts a variety of camps for kids with various health problems and offers them a chance to be “normal” kids for a few days. This is an event that we have done before and I always look forward to hosting a batch of eager and happy kids. This Camp Quality was for kids with cancer, they were an excited and happy group of around 80 that besieged us for over an hour viewing. Mars, Saturn, Venus, Alberio, Mizar/Alcor, meteorites and a piece of the moon kept them too excited to stand still for over an hour.
